Wipe Your Feet!
I can finally start working on a few crafts now that I might have a house soon! I saw this craft on a blog and it inspired me to try my own.
Supplies:
Rubber gridded mat (I got mine at Joann's)
Old towels (3 full size towels made a 20"x30" mat)
Scissors
A standard bath rug is 20x30 inches, so I cut a piece of mat that size. You can make a mat of any size or shape.
Then I cut my towels into strips. The thinner the better, so I cut mine to about .25 inches wide by 5 inches long. No need to measure each strip, just use one as a guide when cutting the rest.
Knot each strip on the mat. For a fuller look, use every box on the grid. If you get impatient easily, use every other box.
Done and looking cute in the bathroom!
wow, that's really cute! how long did it take you? will you be able to put it in the washing machine?
ReplyDeleteIt took me 8 days to finish, but it's pretty simple so you can do it while you watch tv or sit around.
ReplyDeleteIt came out fine in the wash since the towels and rubber grid are machine-washable. The towels may start to fray, but I think that gives it a nice texture.
What kind of store did you buy the grid?
DeleteWhat kind of store did you buy the grid?
DeleteYou can get them at just about any craft store. I bought mine at Michaels.
DeleteIt came out great! This is a super neat idea... I might have to do this if I don't find a rug that I like.

ReplyDeleteThis is a fantastic idea. How do these wash?
ReplyDeleteExcellent! You have made pretty shaggy rugs. I think it can be comfortable for babies playing and sleeping.
ReplyDeleteI cannot find rubber grid with big enough holes like the one you used. I've searched Hobby Hobby, Joann's and Michael's :( They all just have the small ones used for yarn..
ReplyDeleteWhat kinda of towels did you use?
ReplyDeleteJust normal bath towels

ReplyDeleteWhay brand were to your towels? And can it go In the washing machine?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what brand they were. It was a mix of different ones that I found. I washed mine on a delicate cycle.
DeleteHey love this idea, i really want to do it but I am not able to find the rubber mat online on joans, is there another name for it?
ReplyDeleteHi - can you tell me how the rug is holding up? I am concerned about fraying. I have a big rug to make (customer size and shape) and before I put in the effort - I am hoping to hear that the towel cloth is holding up and the rug still looks good (apart from being used). Thanks. *L
ReplyDeleteI gave away all the towel ones, but the one I made out of t-shirt material has held up really well. I keep it in a guest bathroom, so it's not used regularly, but it's been 6 years and it still looks great.
DeleteDo you post the one that you made out of T-shirt material?
ReplyDeleteHere's the t-shirt rug:

Do you knot ea. towel strip once you pull it through or do you use a rug hook to pull it through ?
