I've never used a crockpot before and everyone has been raving about how great they are. Mine has been in storage for 2 years and I finally found it last week!

The recipe started out great...

And it smelled really yummy while it cooked all day...

But it looked a little weird at the end...

Maybe it's supposed to look more like mush than a meal?? It did taste good and that's all that matters, right?
What recipe did you make?
ReplyDeleteThe big secret to crock pot cooking is that the crock really should always be at least 3/4 full. If it isn't, you'll end up with mush or overcooked food. If your crock is too big for the recipe, you can set an oven-safe bakeware dish inside the crockpot, and put the food inside the dish, and then put the lid on it.
Yeah, it needs to be at least 3/4 full or it will burn and get mushy. NOT COOL. Also, some crockpot recipes aren't exact and times need to be adjusted. If it's only half full, you need to reduce the cooking times by about 2 hours.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the suggestions! I'm not sure how full it was, so I'll have to keep that in mind when we try again next time.
ReplyDeleteGood tip about setting another dish inside! I didn't know that, and have definitely eaten some yummy mush.
