Painted Bathroom Rules Signs

Now that Connor is getting to be a big boy, I'm starting to plan for the future.  He's going to be taking baths in his own bathroom and learning to brush his teeth.  We plan on renovating his bathroom/guest bathroom eventually, but for right now, I wanted to make it a little more fun and colorful for him.  I love the bathroom rules signs I've seen and he's going to be at the perfect age to start learning these things soon.

I printed out some simple images with text that I thought would look cute on the signs.  (Please forgive my crappy photos. The lighting must have been really bad when I was working on these.)  I bought four 12" x 12" canvases to transfer the art on.

This is my secret way to transfer art.  I take a pencil and scribble over the back of the paper that has the design on it.

Then I place the paper right onto the canvas and center it exactly how I want it to be.  Then, I use a mechanical pencil without the lead to trace around the design.  When I lift the paper, the design will be transferred onto the canvas!
I spent many, many hours watching tv and painting three coats on each canvas to make them really bold, but it was worth it!
I love how they turned out!
And since I'm matchy-matchy, the shower curtain colors go perfectly with the art.

And the comfy green rug matches too!
I can't wait for Connor to use his new, updated bathroom!

The Reveal: Bathroom Renovation

I can't believe we're finally completely finished with our first room renovation! We started this project back in January and got most of it done in the first couple of months. But the last few months, we've been going crazy waiting for two pieces to come in from the store in the correct color. After way too many phone calls, emails, and trips to the hardware store, I am finally ready to present our new & improved bathroom!

First off, let's look at the nasty room we moved in to...

Here's our ugly old vanity...

And now our new & improved bathroom!

These towels were saved from the guest bathroom in our old house. I pretty much designed the room around them.

The framed flower pictures are also from our old house. They used to hang in the stairwell, but I like them much better here and they fit the space very well.

It took awhile, but I was able to find hardware to match the sconces.

This is the reason why we had to wait so long. The first 5 backsplashes we got were scratched or discolored, so we had to keep waiting for replacement ones to come in.

The vanity top is marble. I love the color because it hides dirt pretty well. We chose the faucet to mimic the style of the sconces, cabinet hardware, and door knobs.

Our hidden secret in the room is this mini linen closet behind the door. It's perfect for hiding the stuff we don't need to have out all the time.

And of course, my t-shirt rug that I made last summer is on the floor. This thing has been relocated all over the house, but this is my favorite spot for it.

So one last time, remember my old nasty bathroom...

Beginning of the Bathroom Renovation

Now that we're nearing the end of the family room reno, we decided to fix up the bathroom since it's on the same floor. Soon the whole area will look brand-spanking new once it's all done and everything will match.

I apologize for these horrible pics of the bathroom before we started. But hey, look at the nasty lighting I had to work with! Notice that this medicine cabinet is supposed to be hung IN the wall...not like this! What were these people thinking when they did this?

Don't you love the tacky plastic towel holder and toilet paper holder? Those will be gone soon!

Over the weekend, our new vanity and mirror came in, so we pulled out the old stuff. It was a little messier than we planned, but we've seen much worse! We're working on patching the wall and cleaning up this nasty mess so we can get the new vanity in over the weekend. So excited!Hope to have something more exciting to show you soon!

The beginning stages of a new house

Now that we're moved in, organizing and makeovers have begun.

First I'll show off our new satin nickel locks on our 3 exterior doors. I'm still looking for matching nickel handles for the storm door in the front.

Our family room makeover is the first major project we are taking on. It's been taking a lot longer than we thought, but we're starting to see a big change! Recessed lighting is in, panelling on the wall is down, and paint is slowly going up. After a slight paint color problem, we picked out Benjamin Moore lenox tan for the walls and Benjamin Moore snowfall white for all our doors, trim, crown moulding, etc.  As an odd coincidence, I think lenox tan is the color we used in our old house in the bathroom. I guess it was meant to be!

Our old guest bathroom
In the near future, I'll be working on a post about how to paint stained trim white since people often wonder about the best way to do it. Trust me, I have learned a LOT about this topic recently!

I really don't want to show pictures until we have more done, but I'm SO excited to show you soon!
