DIY Girly Hanger Hair Bow Holder

I might do have a small addition to baby headbands and bows.  It's so fun to make them and she look so darn cute in them!  Here's a few of the ones I've made for her in the last couple of months: upcycled t-shirt headbands and flower headbands.  The number of hair bows is started to get out of control and she's only 3 months old, so I decided it was time for some organization.  I wanted something that I could hang in her closet so it would be out of the way, but it would also be easily accessible and I would be able to see all her hair accessories at one time.
(I apologize for the photos that are kinda dark.  That's what happens when I get super busy and it's rainy on the one day that I have a few minutes to get some photos done!)

This idea is a combination of several different ones I've seen before and I just mixed them together to create my own concept.  I took a padded hanger from her closet to use as the base.

At the craft store, I found this little wooden tag for less than $1 that would work perfectly for her name.

I painted the wood yellow and then printed out her name in a pretty font.

Using my easy pencil trick, I transferred her name to the wood.

I used a silver marker to trace over the pencil.

To hang the ribbon from the hanger, I used my glue gun.  My warning with this is to make sure you glue it very well and you might even consider using super glue.  Mine broke after a couple days, so I had to redo it.  But I also have WAY too many hair bows for a 3 month old baby!

To add a little extra flair, I added a pretty bow to the top of the hanger.

Of course, I'm going to move this into her closet, but it works well on her doorknob for pictures.  I love it and it's so easy to grab a bow and go!

Caylee's Room Reveal!

Since she came 2 weeks early, we still had a little bit to finish up after she got home.  We finally put the finishing touches on the room and I'm excited to show it off!

Connor has a little door hanger on his door, so I felt like she should have one too.

The name banner was a big ordeal, but I'm happy with how it turned out.  I spent a long time looking for the perfect way to display her name on the wall and I wanted something unique.  For a few months, I was planning on doing a tree branch with birds and the letters hanging down, but it just didn't end up working with the design of the room.  When I found these personalized felt banners, I knew it would be perfect!

The paisley bedding was another challenge because Daddy and I didn't agree on what to get.  I usually pick out all the little home details, but he had more of an opinion on this.  He finally gave in and let me get my favorite paisley bedding and I love the use of aqua for little girls.  The polka dot accents worked really well as an accent pattern that I used throughout the rest of the room too.  The sad part is that when we went to put the bumper on (just for show, not for her to use now), it didn't fit!  The mattress height along with the height of the bumper doesn't work with the crib.  Once we lower the mattress, it will fit, but I'm sad that it doesn't work right now unless I try to revemp it myself.

The wall art was really hard for me to find because I wanted something that matched and worked with the proportions of the walls.  When I saw these girly animal canvas pieces, I knew they would be perfect.  The borders actually have the polka dot borders and that sealed the same for me.  There are bird and elephant accessories in her room, so the animals fit in well too.

Moving on, I added the yellow rocker and floor lamp from Connor's room.  I also got the same wall shelves that he has to display some special photos and trinkets.

I'm waiting to get newborn photos back to put them in the frames, but I also added her first doll from Grammy and Grandpa and the embroidered name sign I made (see below).

I'm so happy with how this turned out! I had a vision in my head and it came out exactly how I planned!  The bunting is made from little scraps of fabric and the name and bunting ribbon are embroidered by hand.

The pillow on the chair was another DIY project that I worked on while pregnant.  I picked up the polka dot accent pattern and sewed a felt flower on top.

The bookshelf is the same one Connor has, but with a girly flair.  I picked up light pink and hot pink storage totes and filled them with some toys and bedding.  Most of the little trinkets are gifts that she got from family & friends, so it's nice to be able to have a place to display them.

The bookends were a bargain at $2!  They were broken and didn't match, so I fixed them with some wood glue and repainted them to match the bedding.

In the other corner, we added the long dresser with the diaper changing pad.

The bird photo frame wall hanging was another great bargain I found.  I bought it for $4 and added new white ribbon to match.

A labor of love and many months of work came together to make the perfect room for our little girl!

Sew a Cute Dinosaur Softie

I'm kind of obsessed with making softies (stuffed animals) so I couldn't resist this cute stuffed dinosaur I found while blogging one day. I adjusted mine slightly by using ribbon loops for taggies instead of her fabric scales. I also added some small jingle bells inside so it rings when you shake it.
Not sure where I like it best in Connor's room, but I'm sure it won't be displayed for long!
Connor is going to love playing with it!

Reversible Patchwork Coasters

We've been spending a lot of time in Connor's room while he plays and so he can get more comfortable with being in there. For the first year, he pretty much did nothing but sleep in there!  I don't want to ruin the pretty white furniture so I decided to make some little coasters.  (Mommy and Daddy may or may not bring a beer in there every once in awhile!)

I had some extra fabric from the patchwork pillow I made earlier so I decided to make the coasters match.
The coasters are 4" x 4" finished, so I cut the pieces a little bigger for a .25" seam allowance. The back is thick quilted fabric and the front is made from some different fabric swatches.

I sewed the patchwork pieces together.

Then I took a piece of quilted fabric and pinned them with wrong sides together. Just like a pillow, I sewed 3 sides closed and left one open.

I flipped the fabric right side out and then irons all the creases.

I pinned the last edge closed and sewed it on the machine.

Love how they turned out and they match perfectly!

And they're reversible!

Sew Burp Cloths

I started out with nine burp clothes when Connor was born. I quickly learned that nine isn't nearly enough for a baby that spits up A LOT. Stores charge so much for a piece of fabric so I knew making my own would be cheaper...and more fun!

My first idea was to take some old shirts and turn them into cute burp clothes. I started by washing, drying, and ironing all my fabric.

I measured a burp cloth I already had and used that as a template for these. I marked the lines on the inside of the shirt.

Then I cut out both the front and back of the shirt and pinned them with right sides together.

Just like you would sew a pillow, I stitched around the edges and left a small opening at one end. Then I turned the fabric right side out and stitched the opening closed.

Here's my Bambi burp cloth...
and my FLIRT burp cloth...
(There's rhinestones so it's a little girly, but he won't know!)

Since those turned out so cute, I tried out some other types of fabric. This owl fabric was very similar to the burp cloth fabric that they used in the hospital.

Flannel fabric with some cute patches ironed on
After working with so many types of fabric and giving them all a try with burping, it was fun to see which ones work best. I love the feel of the knit fabric because it's soft. The flannel absorbs the most liquid, so they tend to last the longest in our house. But they're all super cute, so I use them daily!
